Life is so much lighter and enjoyable without all that weight. Yeah, there maybe onlookers who are constantly judging every move you make but quite frankly, who cares? Sit back, relax, and let them watch because there is nothing more flattering. This is your story, and you are in complete control of how it pans out. You are allowed and entitled to be selfish because nothing matters more then your own happiness and successes. There is no point in dwelling on the past because what’s happening is right now. Yes, this very moment! Be wise, be smart, be aware, but most importantly be yourself. Life is going to throw challenges your way but don’t dodge them, maneuver through them with ease and finesse. The ride can be smooth or bumpy at times, but remember who is behind the steering wheel, you. You are special, you are beautiful, and you are of substance, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Florence & the Machine, The Sequin Queen

Besides artists using their musical talents to fork their independence in the industry, their sense of style not only reflects their genre of music but also sets them apart from other artists. Florence and the Machine is one of those artists that uses her flashy vibrant style and soulful vocals to attract the audience. She definitely caught our eyes, with her signature sequin attire. Not only does she look posh in her shimmery sequin, but also it accentuates her stage presence by glistening an array of colors with every swing of the hips. As you can tell by past posts we are sequin fiends, because it has the ability to make a simple outfit elaborate without the need to overly accessorize. Florence and The Machine is the queen of looking glamorous in her sequin getups yet balances her look with less accessories to achieve that melodramatic demeanor.

If you are a Kate Nash or Feist fan, her grindcore inspired sound is right in your element. She released a few EPs such as ‘Kiss With a Fist’, ‘Dog Days are Over’, and ‘Girl With One Eye’ which are all undeniable sweet. She has spunk and sass that isn't overbearing, which is why Florence and The Machine is our style icon and Sequin Queen!

As some of you may know, Recycled Runway is styling and directing a fashion show this Saturday, April 11th for "Red Tie Events". In order to afford all of our thrift store goodies for our models and other essentials for networking, we decided throw a fundraiser extravaganza last weekend suitably named, "Cashin' the Catwalk". Thanks for all the support from everyone: DJNA who rocked the house, DanielYoon Photography for a photobooth and roaming photos, ShawnySlick for helping decorate and design our crib, and all of you who attended and helped support! We had loads of fun and met our financial goal (and more) for our runway! Thanks everyone!!!!!

Talkin' Style with Castledoor

They are thrift store-loving, indie rockers: Castledoor...can it get any better? Nate- lead vocals, Gabriel- guitars/keys/vocals, Joel- drums, Brando- bass, Liska- keys/vocals, and Coury Jane- vocals/synth, make up the stylish, multi-instrumental family. These Cali natives catch our souls - and our eyes - with their fun, poppy beats and unique wardrobe. Their debut EP, Til We Sink is not your convential, mediocre indie record. It is extraordinary and full of spirit, which is successfully carried onto their style. Not only are we impressed by their catchy beats that makes want to dance dance dance, but we fell in in love with the creative vintage look that the band possesses! So naturally, we had some style q's for our admirable indie rockers. And Castledoor let Recycled Runway in on an array of their favorite fashion secrets ;)

RR: How does your music inspire your style?

Castledoor: Everything starts from an honest, natural place so each way we express ourselves winds together effortlessly.

RR: Where are you favorite places to shop?

Castledoor: Most of us like to thrift shop..it's the thrill of the hunt!

For my day Job I (Coury) run an eBay store (http://stores. shop. ebay. com/FancyTreehouse) with Vintage clothes mixed in with cute clothes of today so I shop pretty much all the time!

RR: Favorite fashion inspiration/icon?

Castledoor: I'm not sure if any of us consciously look to anyone in particular for inspiration. I think it's more of a big mashup with people from every decade and everyone on the streets today! If I (Coury) had to say for myself I would say Sandra Dee circa 1962.

RR: What are your essential wardrobe "must-haves" while on tour?

Castledoor: For the girls: Dresses (a given) and Onesies (so we can crawl over the seats and still be ladies).

For the boys: Layers of cardigans, button ups, tshirts (you never know what the weather will be like and layers just look more fun).

RR: Would you consider your styles very similar or different?

Castledoor: Well, we think of our styles as very different but I'm sure if anyone on the outside looked in they wouldn't be able to tell us apart. We usually randomly show up wearing different versions of the same outfit.

RR: How would you label your style?

Castledoor: Colorful

RR: Favorite thrift-store find?

Castledoor: I (Coury) got a white ruffled dress for $1 that I haven't managed to sell yet (a rarity). I guess I must really like it. (:

Lisa just got a cool trench coat for $1.

Joel once got a striped tank top that I like (he isn't 100% sold on the whole digging for good deals things)

Gabe's "crazy tshirts" (I do all his shopping pretty much as he isn't sold either)

Nate's mustard cardigan is pretty sweet.

Brando has his famous brown pants (that he's worn so much they need to be repaired).

RR: What are your fashion words of wisdom?

Castledoor: You can wear absolutely anything as long as you believe it looks good.

RR: There are tons of indie music bands, how do you think your style sets you apart?

Castledoor: I don't think it sets us apart really but we just have to do what makes us feel comfortable and hope that it represents our personalities and our music well.

RR: What's your advice to other aspiring artists trying to make it in the industry?

Castledoor: We're trying to make it ourselves! Just do what makes you happy and never forget it's supposed to be FUN.

Our good friend and fellow thrift store junky, Patricia (Trixie) Enconmienda is an up and coming designer ready to show the world what she's got! Throughout our grade school years, she designed and created fabulous pieces for countless dances, debuts, and other events. She was also chosen as a "Redesigner" for Savers Thrift stores nationwide! We had a short interview with Trixie and she let us in on all her favorite fashion secrets ;)

RR: Who are your favorite designers?

Trix: Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf, Rick Owen...I like the more alternative, grungy look.

RR: What made you want to become a designer?

Trix: When I was little I liked playing with barbies. I collected Barbie clothes. I liked going to thrift stores when I was little and recreating things.

RR: What's your favorite thrift store find?

Trix: I like collecting crazy dresses. I have this gold snake belt I really like, with a lot of bling on the snake head. It's so cleopatra.

RR: What inspires you?

Trix: People on the street, on the metro, you see a lot of crazy things.

RR: What's your must haves?

Trix: Jeans, Heels, Small Messenger Bag, a black V-neck

RR: What would you label your style?

Trix: My day-to-day style is simple-chic. But when I go out I go crazy, glamorous.

RR: What do you want your line to convey?

Trix: I feel like it's deconstructed; it's an ugly/pretty thing. I like to get that pretty element and make it raw. I'm not going to lie some of the stuff I design is pretty scandalous.

RR: How do your parents feel about you being a young designer?

Trix: They're very supportive. They know I have a passion for it, so they're okay with it. My mom was an art major so it's sort of expected.

RR: Do you want to stay based in California or move to New York?

Trix: It's crucial to be in New York, and I want to travel the world but I think L.A. is still growing and there's a lot to do here. L.A. is looked at as the downside of fashion, but I want to change that image. We can be as sophisticated as New York too, but you know...like.. better.

A recipe made up of many of our other posts! First: we mix patterns; the striped dress and the plaid flannel. Second: we layer, layer, layer! The jacket and the flannel make the dress look a bit more fitted and is a comfy look for winter. Third: we accessorize with the layered gold chain to compliment the red/white/black scheme. Throw in some spandex leggings with pumps; bust out the ex's flannel (because that's all he's good for now anyway), sprinkle some sass, and TADA.....we got ourselves a bitchin' look - and attitude - for the night.

Cocktail to Cas. This dress we found at Buffalo Exchange was turned into a simple fall outfit by adding some extra accessories. The dress can be worn on any occasion, during any season. And the white button down blouse solves the chills during this winter. In addition, the ushanka hat gave it a unique, foreign look and the leather jacket and boots gave it a kick of bad ass. With an outfit like this, any guy would be crazy to let this girl go ;)

Penelope, a romantic fairy tale, not only motivated us through its story... but it inspired our wardrobe as well! The moral of the story is about being comfortable in your own skin, despite what other people think or say. We correlated this to our style. Our latest inspiration was from the most talked about Christmas collection, Kate Moss for Topshop. The collection was so hot that most of the items sold out in 15 minutes at the store and 2 hours online! Two of our favorite items include these everyday-wear sweater dresses. We loved the concept of a cute sweater that could be worn as a dress or even as a top with jeans. Little did we know, that we had to look no further than our own closet! This piece found at a local thrift for only $1.91, can pull off the same look as Top Shop's dress which is sold for 100 Euro's.

Pondering over which celebs win the noble title of "Best Dressed" in our books, we looked over many. One in particular in high ranking....is Miss Leighton Meester. Not only is she physically gorgeous but she has the wardrobe to match. She pulls off the "trendy, upper-east-side-Manhattan, Ivy-League-Brat" look better than anyone we know.

Looks like these inspire us, because we know that various pieces in these sort of get-ups are not hard to find in vintage shops or thrifts. Like we've said, you don't need the dough to look like you have it. :)

The hand-me-down from heaven. These boot cuffs, found in a thrift store for not more than a dollar, are anything but ordinary. Versatile and trendy; we used these cuffs for many different looks. They can be used with your basic going-to-school ensemble, or even a classy cocktail party. With options like these, how can a girl go wrong?

Look of the Night.

Last Friday we attended a USC frat party and this was our favorite look of the night. She wore a sequined headband, simple flannel, leather leggings, and fringe studded boots and a bright handbag. We loved the way she managed to put together the falls hottest trends without looking too over the top. She immediately caught our eyes with her successful attempt to look simple and chic.

These babies by far was the cherry on top of our sundae.

These boots by Jeffrey Campbell added a special something to this ensemble. They were even more gorgeous in person.

Unfortunately they are also $160, so no campbell love for us.

But as true bargain girls, we will find a replacement that will give us our fringe boot fix! Just the thought of our thrifty hunt for a comparable yet affordable pair of boots is exciting.

"Recycled Runway? What the heck is that?" is probably what you're thinking. We're two unemployed girls - Yvonne (Bon) and Katalina (Kat-v) - letting you know that there is hope for us! Because we, like other fashionistas, love designer clothes but are hindered by one obscure, minimal, tiny, little obstacle - DINERO. However, that doesn't mean our style has to look like it. Recycled Runway is about being able to make something out of nothing. Making it work with the most limited of resources. With a little bit of perseverance (because trust us, good things are hard to find) and luck, the best of fashion is in your own backyard. From celebrity to street inspiration, fashion is everywhere. So with Recycled Runway expect so see universal inspiration, thrifty treasures, fashion do's and DON'Ts, some mixing and matching, designer with vintage ensembles, and anything else we pick up on along the way.
